$ 1.8 million in UPS scholarships were awarded to private colleges
Students on 639 private college and university campuses were awarded scholarships this year from the UPS Educational Endowment Fund. The fund, which was created by The UPS (United Parcel Service) Foundation in Atlanta, is held and managed by the Foundation for Independent Higher Education (FIHE) in Washington, D.C.
Since 1985, scholarship funds have been distributed from the endowment to the colleges. It is estimated that over 15,000 students have received UPS Scholarships totaling over
$ 41 million dollars since the program began.
In announcing the grants, Lisa Hamilton, President of The UPS Foundation, said “For nearly 50 years, The UPS Foundation has been honored to support education through partnerships with such organizations as FIHE and their partner associations at the state level. The availability of quality, affordable higher education is critical to establishing a talented, more diverse workforce.”
FIHE president, Dr. William E. Hamm, said that “No other company has done so much for so many private colleges and their students. The beauty of this program is that UPS created an endowment fund that will keep on giving in perpetuity – even though they also continue to be our most generous donor on an ongoing basis.”
The Foundation for Independent Higher Education is the national partner in a network 34 state and regional associations which develop resources for private colleges and universities. Since its founding in 1958, FIHE and its partners have received more than $ 1.5 billion in support for private colleges.
